A treatise on self-structure
the concept of self has long possessed me: as figure, as meaning, as purpose, as existence. as time has elapsed, I feel no closer to any true ‘essence’ of what that self is. in rendering the specific intricacies and nuances of the face into figure it becomes clearer the simplicity of the individual human body. with difficulty of Blackness to be self-autonomous and always in consumption, subjugation, or exploitation, the shadow is an opportunity to dismantle the negative association and institutionalization of the ‘black’ body as a thing, or construction. instead, in shadow there is peace with no attrition or connotation: it just is.
